What is GPTI?

GPTI is the Gestalt Psychotherapy and Training Institute. GPTI was founded in 1986, and became a limited company in 1995. We are a membership organisation that provides a framework for the training and accreditation of Gestalt psychotherapists in the UK. Our broad aims are to set and uphold high standards of training in Gestalt therapy in the UK; to generally develop and encourage interest in and research into the Gestalt approach to psychotherapy.

What We Do...

GPTI develops and monitors training standards and organises examinations for those wishing to obtain the nationally recognised GPTI Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy. We also assess and accredit prior learning and provide special routes for individuals who have other Gestalt trainings to achieve a Diploma or become U.K.C.P. registered.

GPTI is a national co-ordinating and accrediting body, and does not itself offer training programmes in Gestalt. GPTI training programmes in Gestalt are offered via the independent training organisations and the trainers associated with GPTI. GPTI also accredits Gestalt psychotherapy trainers and supervisors.

GPTI has developed Codes of Ethic and Professional Practice for its member-practitioners, whether they be Gestalt therapists, Gestalt trainers or supervisors. These state the standards that Gestalt practitioners who are members of GPTI are expected to maintain. We also operate a Complaints Procedure which provides safeguards for members of the public and trainees who are receiving services from GPTI members.

How To Become a Member...

Prospective students should make contact with one of the Training Centres to discuss the courses available and then ask a GPTI Trainer to sign their application form for GPTI Membership. Forms are available from the GPTI office.

Qualified practitioners are welcome to apply for membership of GPTI. Application procedures are available from the GPTI office.

Our Links With The UKCP...

GPTI is a founder member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) and is entitled to put those of its members who have passed the diploma examination and fulfilled all other GPTI and UKCP requirements onto the UKCP Register for Psychotherapists.
