Complaints and criminal record declaration
If you apply as a Friend or Accredited member, you confirm in your application:
I confirm that no organisation has a complaint outstanding against me, that I do not have a criminal record, and there are no issues that might be considered adverse (relating to my professional conduct) that need to be considered in this application.
If any of these statements do not apply to you, say so in your application and give the details there. GPTI's administrators and the committee that reviews your application see these details. The administrator passes them to the Chair of the GPTI Ethics Committee.
Data protection consent
If you apply as a Friend or Accredited member, you also agree in your application:
Data Protection Consent: I agree to GPTI holding the information I have provided along with other relevant data relating to my professional practice and training, and to their use of this data for the purposes set out on this page and in GPTI's data protection policy and privacy policy.
Data protection notice
GPTI stores and processes information in accordance with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
Contact and membership records
We store your contact and membership details and we use these to contact you regarding your membership, provide subscription renewals, send you the British Gestalt Journal by post or electronically, as you choose, and email or write to you with information about GPTI, conferences or the wider Gestalt field. We also use your email for the GPTI newsletter (unsubscribe or email admin@gpti.org.uk if you do not wish to receive this).
You can stop newsletters, announcements and other non-essential mailings at any time in your account settings on this website, or with the unsubscribe link in any mailing. Essential membership emails, such as receipts, renewal notices and application updates, still arrive.
You can ask us to update your contact details at any time by emailing admin@gpti.org.uk.
If you do not pay your subscription by 31 March, your directory profile is hidden until you pay, unless you are in touch with the administrator about renewing. If you resign, the administrator archives your record by hand, which hides it from the directory and from GPTI's member lists. Former members' details are deleted by hand after 6 years, or sooner if you ask. You can ask for your details to be deleted at any time by emailing admin@gpti.org.uk.
Administrative, financial, academic, regulatory and CPD/re-accreditation records
We store financial, academic, regulatory and CPD/re-accreditation records for up to 6 years and then delete them by hand. Administrative records may if necessary be stored longer for historical purposes.
Conferences and events
When you book a GPTI event on this website, we ask for your name and email address, and you can add a phone number, dietary requirements and anything else about your booking. The information you provide is used to administer the event. A delegate list of names and email addresses is sometimes shared at conferences. It is not published elsewhere.
Website and directory
Find a therapist is GPTI's public directory on this website. Friend and Trainee members are not listed in it. If your membership level can be listed, you write your own directory profile in your member account, choose which details are shown publicly, and decide when it appears: nothing is shown until you switch your listing on. The name on your profile is always shown. Your postcode is never shown, but it is used to place you in searches by location. You can change your profile, or take it out of the directory, at any time in your member account or by emailing admin@gpti.org.uk. The administrator can also hide a profile from the directory.
Jiscmail
Jiscmail is a discussion list that can be opted into by sending an email to admin@gpti.org.uk.
Special category and criminal offence data
UK GDPR gives extra protection to special category data, which includes racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious beliefs, trade union membership, physical or mental health and sexual orientation, and to criminal offence data, which is information about criminal convictions and offences.
GPTI does not ask for special category data. Dietary requirements or access needs you give when booking an event may reveal something about your health or religion; they are used to administer the event.
GPTI collects criminal offence data when you apply:
- Friend and Accredited applicants confirm that they do not have a criminal record, or give details (see the declaration above). GPTI's administrators and the committee that reviews their application see those details, and the administrator passes them to the Chair of the GPTI Ethics Committee.
- Accredited applicants upload a DBS certificate (or local equivalent), which GPTI's administrators check. GPTI's administrators and the committee that reviews their application can open it.
Third parties
Sharing of information: If you are a trainee, we may share information with your training institute, for example the Manchester Gestalt Centre. If you are a member of UKCP, your name and reaccreditation status is confirmed with UKCP. During UKCP Quinquennial reviews, academic records may be viewed for regulatory purposes.
These services hold information on GPTI's behalf:
- Supabase: the database, member sign-in and uploaded documents
- Vercel: hosts the website and measures visits to its pages
- Resend: sends the website's emails and GPTI's mailings
- Sentry: reports errors on the website so that they can be fixed
- postcodes.io: finds the location of a postcode for the directory search
- Stripe: takes card payments, when card payment is switched on
- Zoho: GPTI's earlier membership records system
- Mailchimp: GPTI's previous newsletter service, while its list is kept
- JISCMail: runs the Jiscmail discussion list
We share information only as described on this page and in GPTI's data protection policy, or where the law requires it.
Withdrawing consent and complaints
You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing admin@gpti.org.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK's data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk.
Further details are in GPTI's data protection policy and privacy policy.
